Something New and Exciting
For our talk on 10th October we welcomed back Dr John Marsh, Director of the Lord Mayor's Chapel, Bristol. John treated us to a journey through pieces that have been new and exciting through a long musical career.
Starting in a suitably exciting fashion with "Coronation Scot' John took us from the Renaissance with Thomas Tallis (Spem in Alium) via Bach and Schumann to the twentieth century with Messiaen, Denis Browne, Vaughan Williams and Scott Joplin. As well as the music we were treated to John's anecdotes about his life and how he came to discover each piece. It all made for a highly entertaining evening.
