The Skill of the Instrument Maker
To kick off the 2016-17 season we were joined by musician and broadcaster Lynne Plummer. Lynne talked on a subject often overlooked by music lovers: 'The Skill of the Instrument Maker'. With a mix of history, anecdotes, recorded interviews and music Lynne looked at the techniques used, and skill needed, to make the horn, classical guitar, flute and violin. We've all heard of historic violins still in regular use but who would have thought that getting it wet could make it fall apart or that polishing a horn could actually shorten its life? An enthralling talk which gave everyone pause for thought and to round it off some of the music had been performed on instruments made by the craftsmen interviewed!
