Music inspired by the works of William Shakespeare.
Stroud Valleys Music Club: Malcolm Lewis played music inspired by the works of William Shakespeare.
The scheduled presenter for our late November meeting was unable to visit us, but fortunately our old friend Malcolm Lewis from Cirencester was able to step into the breach.
He played a fascinatingly varied programme of music inspired by the works of William Shakespeare.
Many pieces by well known classical composers have obvious literary and musical connections, but we were reminded that ‘Kiss Me Kate’ and ‘West Side Story’ are also based on Shakespeare.
Also we were invited to sing along with Harry Champion in his old Music Hall song ‘I’m Henery the Eighth I am...!’
Clearly our greatest playwright was able to bring out the best in many composers and players who have over the centuries produced songs for all seasons.
